01/15/09 Assessment of Acedemic Giftedness
Tyler Independent School District is accepting nominations for assessment of giftedness in students who show high academic potential. Anyone can nominate a student for assessment, including parents, other relatives, guardians, school personnel, and others. Nomination forms can be requested from your child’s classroom teacher and are also available on the Tyler ISD Website. All forms are due by January 29, 2010.
11/09/09 Tyler ISD Uses Facebook to Share District Information
The Tyler Independent School District wants to invite parents and community members to join their new Facebook fan page. As an effort to embrace new technology, the District is using the social networking tool to distribute information about the campuses.
"With more than 220 million users on Facebook, we are going where the people already are," said Angela Jenkins, Tyler ISD Director of Communications and Public Relations. "We know many parents already use this tool and feel it's another way Tyler ISD can communicate with them. What a wonderful opportunity for us to share news, events and information about our school district."
When subscribers become a fan of the Tyler ISD fan page they will automatically receive updates about the school district. Campus events and photos are also shared on the site. Type "Tyler ISD" in the Facebook search menu to find the site and join the group.
Tyler ISD currently uses several methods to communicate with parents including District and campus websites; The Link, Tyler ISD's printed bi-monthly parent newsletter; AlertNow Rapid Communication phone system; and E-Link, an email subscription service.

All documents being sent home with students must be presented to Jennifer Deen, Ruth Davis, and Jennifer Sturm for approval prior to being sent out. Additionally, Leslie Wood has requested that she be provided a copy of anything being sent home with students on behalf of PTA. This will help keep everyone informed and help answer questions about PTA activities.
PTA wants to thank Shawn O'Dell for providing lunch from The Diner at our August board meeting!

Thank you so much for making this another great year for the Tyler ISD Volunteer Program! I appreciate all of you advising and assisting your volunteers with the online application and renewal procedures. The Volunteer Handbook is now online and can be accessed by clicking on the link that is on the Volunteer homepage of the Tyler ISD website.
A card will be mailed to the 2008-09 volunteers reminding them to renew their application for the 2009-10 school year. Volunteers who gave us an e-mail address will also receive the message via e-mail. New volunteers will be able to register for 2009-10 beginning June 5, 2009. Existing volunteers will be able to renew their applications for next year beginning June 5, 2009.
The Volunteer Office will be closed from June 4 to August 18, 2009.
